Sustainability - Mechanical Recycling

Leveraging its expertise in molecular design and wide-ranging sourcing abilities, TotalEnergies develops circular compounds that incorporate PCR (Post-Consumer Recycled) and pre-consumer recycled content and exhibit virgin-like properties. 

The combination of outstanding virgin resin performance and carefully selected PCR material allows to produce ready-to-use compounds that can address even highly demanding applications. 

rPE6314 is an example of such a compound: it is a rHDPE blow moulding grade, containing 50% of recycled HDPE coming from post-consumer household waste collected in Western European countries. This material can suit the production of many non-food blow moulding applications, such as lubricants, chemicals or detergent bottles and tubes. 

In December 2021, TotalEnergies and Plastic Omnium have signed a strategic partnership that will see them join forces to design and develop new plastic materials made from recycled polypropylene, which meet the demanding aesthetic and safety standards that apply to the automotive industry. 

TotalEnergies and Plastic Omnium are pooling their innovation and engineering skills to design new types of recycled materials that offer enhanced performance and are better for the environment, while providing deliverable responses to the challenges raised by end-of-life plastics. These new materials, containing 20% to 100% recycled materials, sourced from industrial and domestic waste streams, have a CO2 impact as much as six times lower than using virgin materials.
